    Early Life

    William Shakespeare was the son of John Shakespeare, an alderman and a successful glover (glove-maker) and Mary Arden, the daughter of an affluent landowning farmer. He was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, where he was baptised on 26 April 1564. He had two older sisters, two younger sisters and three younger brothers.

    School Years

    He studied Latin, Greek and History. But at the age of 14-15 years old he left school.
  • 1582

    Family

    At the age of 18, Shakespeare married 26-year-old Anne Hathaway.Six months after the marriage Anne gave birth to a daughter, Susanna, baptised 26 May 1583. Twins, son Hamnet and daughter Judith, followed almost two years later and were baptised 2 February 1585. Hamnet died of unknown causes at the age of 11 and was buried 11 August 1596.

    He went to London and played as an actor, then he started writing plays ,too.
  • The Plague

    In 1593 the Plague had killed thousands of people and the theatres closed.During that Shakespeare started writing poems called sonnets
  • the Globe

    In 1599 Shakespeare opened a new theatre called The Globe. It was round and 3000 could attend a play. Some of them could sit some of them no. There were musicians in the play ,too. Also, the roles played only by men.
  • Plays

    BY the year 1615 he had written about 38 plays. These were comedies,like mid-summer-night dream, dramas,such as Hamlet and historical events, like Henry V. The audience loved his work, because he wrote beautiful stories about many places in the world.
  • Death

    He became rich and famous. But at age 52 years old he died.2
