When William Golding was 12 years old he attempted to write a novel, he was unsuccessful in his novel. This event lead to him being frustrated and so it resulted to him bullying other kids.

He went to college to study English literature, even though his dad wanted him to become a scientist. He also published his first work, it was a poetry book called Poems.

He taught English and philosophy at a school in Salisbury. He taught disruptive boys and that inspired his novel ¨Lord of the Flies¨. Then he ended his career temporarily to join the Royal Navy and fight in World War II.

During the war he fought battles at the sinking of Bismark, he was a lieutenant and he was even placed in command of a rocket-launching craft. This wasn't only a good experience but it would be helpful material for his books, after the war he went back to teaching

William Golding finally published his first novel after 21 rejects. The novel told the story of adolescent boys stranded on a island after a plane wreck. The novel has been widely known as a classic since its been published.

After being awarded the 1983 Nobel Prize for Literature, 7 years later the book ¨Lord of the Flies¨ got so much recognition that the book inspired a film version. This film also brung attention to a new generation of readers.

William Golding died from a heart attack in Perranarworthal, Cornwall. Shortly after his death they published his completed manuscript for his novel ¨The Double Tongue¨.
