William Goldind was born in Saint Columb Minor, Cornwall, England. to Mildred and Alex, An active suffragette and a school master. As a child, William attended the school where his father taught, Brasenose College at Oxford University.

William married Ann Brookfield and had two children, David and Judith. That same year, he began teaching English and Philosophy at Bishop Wordsworth’s School in Salisbury.

Golding served in the Royal Navy For 5 years. He then started an interest in sailing and the sea. Once the war ended, he returned to teaching and writing. Serving in the Navy revealed the cruel world to Golding and showed him what evil things humankind does.

Being rejected 21 times did not stop William from publishing his first and most popular niovel, Lord of The Flies.

William Golding died of a heart attack in Perranarworthal, Cornwall. After pasing away at 81 years old, his manuscript The Double Tongue was completed and published.
