William Golding was born on September 19, 1911, in Saint Columb Minor, Cornwall, England.

The book was a book of poetry entitled "Poems" and this was the start of it all.

He graduated from Brasenose College at Oxford University

In 1935 Golding took a position teaching English and philosophy at Bishop Wordsworth’s School in Salisbury.

During World War II, he fought battleships at the sinking of the Bismarck, and also fended off submarines and planes.

The war ends 5 years later and he goes back to teaching and writing

Golding finally publishes his 1st book. Took him 21 tries, but he gets it published and it was the well known "Lord of the Flies"

After many years of teaching, Golding retires turning 51

The year right after he retires, Golding gets a film adaptation for his highly acclaim novel, "Lord of the Flies"

At the age of 73, Golding was awarded a Nobel Prize for Literature.

In 1990 a new film version of the Lord of the Flies was released, bringing the book to the attention of a new generation of readers.

On June 19, 1993, Golding died of a heart attack in Perranarworthal, Cornwall, dying at age 81.
