William Golding was born on Spetember 11th, 1911 in Saint Columb Minor, Cornwall, England. He was raised in a 14th Century House. And he lived next to a graveyard.

Golding's first book "Poems" was published in 1934, a year before he graduated. When Golding was 12 he tried to publsih a book but unsucsessfuly failed. Golding says he was an angry child and found happiness in hurting others.

In 1935 Golding started teaching. He taught children about English and Philsophy. He enjoyed teaching.

In 1940 Golding temporarily stopped teaching to join the Navy. He joined to help fight in World War II.

Golding served in the navy for five years. He fended off batlleships, planes, and subarines. At one point in his Navy life he was placed in command of a rocket launching craft.

In 1954 Golding had his most acclained novel published known as "Lord of the Flies". He had it published after 21 failed attempts and rejections. The novel is about a group of boys who are in a plane crash and have to survive on an island.

In 1983 Golding was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.

On June 19th, 1993 Golding died of a heat attack. He spent the last years of his life with his wife. They lived quietly and Golding was still continuing to write.
