William Golding was born September 19,1911 in England. He was an only child.

After primary school he went to further his education in english at Oxford University. In 1935 he took his first teaching position at Bishop's Wordswoth School.

Even though he had such a strong love for teaching he left his job to join the Navy in 1940. He went on to fight in World War 1.

The war taught him a lot about humanity. After the war he returned to teaching and writing.

In 1954 he had his first book, "Lord of the Flies" published. The novel was inspired by his experiences at war and human nature.

April 7th, 1983 Golding recieved the nobel peice prize for his literature.

June 19, 1993 he had a heart attack. That day Golding died.
