William Golding

    He was born in Saint Columb Minor, Cornwall, England. His parents were Alec and Mildred Golding.

    In 1935 he graduated from Oxford. He went on to continue his father's legacy as a schoolmaster.

    He began teaching English and he also taught philosophy. He started teaching in Salisbury.

    In 1940 he left teaching to join the Royal Navy. It was only a temporary thing.

  • Published Lord of the Flies

    He published Lord of the Flies as his first novel. He has been rejected 21 times before being able to publish it.

  • Named Commander of the British Empire

    He was named the Commander of British Empire. This proved him to be a high quality writer and a very successful person.

  • Other works

    He published many other worked like The Paper Men. He was criticized very harshly for this work because it was a biography about a novelist. People didn't seem to enjoy this biography as much as his other books.

  • Death

    He does after a long life of writing many books. He died of congestive heart failure.
