William Golding was born on September 19th, 1911. His home town was Cornwall, England. His father was a school teacher while his mother was an activist for women sufurage.

William tried to write and publish his first novel ever at the age of 12. He was unsuccessful in his attempts.

William Golding, after primary school, went to go on to one of the most pristegist colleges, Oxford. For the first two years he was going to major in sciences, but his third year there he switch to major in literature.

While he was at Oxford William published his work. It was a book of poems, named Poems.

William graduated from Oxford University. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in english, and a diploma in education.

Golding took a position as a teacher in english and philosiphy. This job of teaching unruly boys would later be the inspiration for the "Lord of the Flies".

Golding went to fight during WW2. Spending the next six years mostly on a ship. This developed a love for the sea that stayed with Golding all his life.

After 21 years of rejection Golding published his most acclaimed novel. "Lord of the Flies" has since been called a classic.

Two decades after retirement Golding recieved the Noble Prize for literature. In 1988 he was knighted by queen Elizabeth II.

Golding died of a heart attack in the city of Perranarworthal, Cornwall. After his passing his children published his manuscript for "The Double Tounge".
