Willam Golding was born in Saint Columb Minor Cornwall, England. His mother was a supporter of the British sufferage movement and his fater was a school teacher.

Golding stopped his teaching career temporarily in 1940 to join the Navy. Golding was in the Navy for about six years then returned to teaching.

After 21 rejections, lord of the flies was published. Golding combined his perception of humanity through the Navy with his years of experience with schoolboys to write the book.

Although he loved teaching Golding left Bishop Wordsworth’s School in Salisbury to become a full time writer. His experiences in teaching and the childrens behavior helped him write his books.

Queen Elizabeth II knighted Golding. At this point he had already recieved many awards and writen many other books.

William Golding Died of a heart attck in Perranarworthal, Cornwall. Golding was survived by his wife, Ann, and their two children, Judy and David.
