William Golding was born on September 19, 1911. He was born in a 14th century home next to a graveyard located in Cornwell, England.

William attempted to write his first book at twelve years old. He was unsuccessful, and found a different outlet which was bullying his peers.

In 1934 William published his first work titled Poems. The collection of poems was overlooked by the critics.

In 1935 William graduated from Brasennose College at Oxford College.

Following his graduation he started searching for a job. He came to the decision of following in his father's footsteps. He became an English and philosophy teacher.

In 1940 he abandoned teaching temporarily. He joined the Royal Navy and fought in World War II.

The war ended in 1945. William went back and began teaching again.

In 1954 William wrote his first and most popular novel. The novel was titled Lord of The Files.

At 73 years old Golding won the Nobel Prize for Literature.

Golding spent his last years living peacefully alongside his wife. He passed away on June 19, 1993, but his legacy still lives on today.
