Shortly before taking his Ph.D. in Physics, Heisenberg had spent this winter to study physics under Max Born, James Franck, and David Hilbert in Gottingen. Interestingly, James Franck had won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1925 alongside Gustav Ludwig Hertz. “The Nobel Prize in Physics 1932.” Nobelprize.org, www.nobelprize.org/prizes/physics/1932/heisenberg/biographical/.

Studying physics between the years 1920-1923 at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and the Georg-August University of Gottingen which led to him receiving his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Munich.

Heisenberg's most famous contribution to the sciences is his Principle of Uncertainty. Please see the youtube video below that quickly describe the Uncertainty Principle: Link text
-
If publishing the Uncertainty Principle at the age of 23 wasn't impressive enough, he eventually was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics for his contributions.

Heisenberg became the President of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. He dedicated his time to furthering the policy of the foundation, which was to gather scientists from countries outside of Germany (Nobelprize.org) “The Nobel Prize in Physics 1932.” Nobelprize.org, www.nobelprize.org/prizes/physics/1932/heisenberg/biographical/.

His death occurred in Munich, Germany, where he had lived with his wife, Elisabeth Schumacher, and seven children for many years.
