-
With a woman that he loved more than Cadence and her mother.
-
From a heart failure
-
Cady realizes she has feelings for that but Gat has a girlfriend at New York where he lives.
-
Summer when Cadence, the protagonist, is 15 years old.
-
Every summer Cadence goes to her grandparent’s island. Beechwood island. Cady is reunited with her grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. They were called the Liars: Johnny, Mirren Gat and Cady.
Gat is not her cousin. He is his uncle brother’s son -
Suddenly, Cady is found alone in the beach curled into a ball, almost no clothes and underwater. She can’t remember what happened.
Cadence visits the doctor: The doctors say she has a traumatic brain injury. She suffers from migraines and a lot of pain. Her medication and drugs for the pain make her hallucinate too. -
Cady is supposed to go to Beechwood as usual but this time she goes on a trip to Europe with her father. She started sending letters to the liars since she missed them. None of them responded back.
-
Cady feels awful and very sick. When she asks Penny for details about her accident, Penny replies tearfully that she has asked many times before, and always finds the answers upsetting.
-
This summer Cady is allowed to go to the island for the first time after her accident. No one talks about it, no one tells her what really happened. Everyone acts as nothing has happened. Granddad’s mind is starting to fail, the younger cousins gossip about Cadence being a drug addict, and the cousin on the phone thinks the island is haunted. Cady is more confused than ever.
-
When she arrives she realices that the old Victorian house where Granddad and Granny used to live has been completely rebuilt, as an unattractive modern structure.
-
Cady and Gat decide to give their love journey a second chance this time. The liars are hiding something from her, something about her accident. Also, she realizes that the Liars never went to the family dinners anymore. Isn’t that weird?
-
After seeing the liars, memories start to come back, but no one wants to help her remember since the doctors said she has to remember things on her own.
-
He starts to call Cady Mirren and confuse their names. Why was that happening?
-
The aunts start to fight about the inheritance since Grandpa was getting old. Everyone wanted to get all the money and the island. All the daughters had failed in life.
-
Her dogs had burned to death inside. Why did that happen?
-
She finally remembers that the Liars had set the house on fire to stop the fights about the inheritance. Something went wrong and all of the Liars except Cady had burned to death too. Gat, Mirren and Johnny didn’t make it out of the house in time. Her three best friends were dead and she couldn't save them in the fire. She feels like it’s all her fault. Cady had been talking with ghosts the last two summers since her accident because her medicines made her hallucinate.
