Jake and Delilah Kincaid are married because of Delilah's abusive father. Jake is a trapper who returns in the summer. Delilah's family only lives a few miles away from her house with her husband Jake. One time Jake leaves Delilah finds out there will be an addition to their family. This baby seems to be taking a toll on Jake and Delilah's life. -

Delilah feels lonely, so she walks over to here mother's cabin. She say hi to all her family. Particulary, Daisy say hi and calles her as fat as a bear. Delilah and her mother head back to her and Jakes cabin. On the way she goes into labor. As she is delivering the baby the crows are saying Amos, Amos. She gives birth to her son and names him Amos. Shortly after giving birth, Delilah dies from losing to much blood. -

The next summer Jake returns and feels strange. Once he returns he finds Dasiy Delilah's sister sitting on the porch. Jake wonders if she has run of from her parents, so he walks inside. Inside aftere noticing Lolly holding an infant, he gets the news about his wife. He is very upset about this and thinks about solutions to fix the problem. -
Bittersweet Creek to Pretty Water
Jake is trying to get to his house brother Gil's house. He thinks if Gil doesn't mind he'll give Amos to Gil and Robecca for a while. He'll go to his trapping meeting sell some skins and come back and dowse in the summer. Year after year when he comes back he sees the changes in Amos. But one year when Jake comes back someting is different. -

Rebecca gets sick from passing the shot. A doctor is going around giving a vaccine for the small pox. She skipped because she wanted to give it to the little Indian children. Amos is very scared and concerned for her. Rebecca was like a mother to him. He goes to live with the Block boys for a while until she gets better. She gets to sick to be cured and is in too much pain. The next day everyone is woken up to a gun shot. Rebecca was killed by an injun. -

Jake returns to Gil's house that summer. He brings his new wife Blue Owl. When he comes back Jake tells everyone that he wants to take amos with him to Bitter Sweet Creek. Everyone is shocked, and Amos doesn't want to go. He has made a connection with the Block Boys. But Jake is his father. Now Amos must make the long journey home with Jake and his new Indian wife Blue Owl.
