    In 1755 the Brititsh tried again with a much bigger force unfortunately the british failed again. Because the French had successfully learned the battle moves of their first nation allies.

    In 1755 Governor Lawrence was convinced that british newcomers in nova scotia would not be safe with the acadians living among them. Lawrence thought he had found his proof when his british troops captured fort beausejour from the french inside they found 300 armed acadians defending the fort. To Lawrence this ment that all acadians were disloyal.

    When Lawrence found the 300 armed acadians. To him it ment that all acadians were disloyal. " The French inhabitants of the provicne shall be removed out of the country as soon as possible" ordered governor lawrence. most of the canadians were deported by ship to New England colonies. some were sent to the caribbean, france or england. a few escaped and went hiding into the woods.

    In the Spring of 1758 the british collected a huge force of warships and troops at halifax. Arriving of Louisbourg that June, the british blocked off the harbour. the british soldiers hurried onshore with their cannons . they cut off the town from the land ward side and settled in for a long siege. Inside the fortress at louisbourg the people were cut off from supplies and reinforcements.

    At the Fort Montcalm had 6000 soldiers and 300 upper Great Lakes Odawa allies.Almost 4400 British soldiers waited on the plains of Abraham. Reinforcements had not arrived for the French and general Montcalm had to make a decision before the British got to close and it was to late.Montcalm came out of the city gates leading 4000 troops. The British launched a large volley of musket fire. The French shot back an intense battle raged on the plains of Abraham, both Montcalm and wolfe were killed.

    Just before midnight on September 12th 1759 the first British soliders stepped ashore. through the night the British soldiers crawled up a steep hill leading to the field. In a few hour the British force was in place on the plains of Abraham. when the morning came the French were astonished to see thousands of British soldiers in battle position just out side the city gates.

    In 1763 France and Britain signed the treaty of paris ending the war. Under the treaty France gave up any claim to Quebec or any other part of North America. In return France recieved Guadeloupe a sugar producing island. the only parts france got to keep were the tiny islands of Saint Pierre and Miquelon near the coast of Newfoundland

    The Royal Proclamation occured in 1763 the British did not want to evict the canadiens from their homes after the canadiens surrendered at Montreal.So the British did not evict the Canadiens they wanted to assimilate them. This means the Canadiens would have to become more like the British.

    In October 1763 King George III of England signed the Royal Proclamation of 1763, which laid out the British goverments plans for the colony.To attract Anglophones to Quebec the Proclamation brought in British laws it also prevented settlement west of the Appalachians. This forced American colonists who wanted land to move west to Quebec

    The person who thought of war against the english was a man named Pontiac . Pontiac was the leader of the Odawa he covinced several First Nations to join together to drive the British out of the Ohio river valley. In May 1763 Pontiac and the Odawa laid siege to the fort at Detroit.

    The British decided the best way to keep their colonies loyal was to recognize the Canadiens rights that had been taken away by the Proclamation. Therefore in 1774 Britain passed a law with new plans for the colony.

    The attemp to turn Quebec into a colony with a British identity failed.Canadiens had developed such a strong sense of identity that they could not be made British. They were determined to survive as a people. Only a few hundred English speaking newcomers were attracted to Quebec. In the Thirteen colonies the colonists were becoming restless under British control. The British did not want trouble in Quebec as well. They needed to keep their colonies loyal .
