1865 - End of the Civil War and 13th Amendment abolishes slavery

This event was important because the 13th amendment ended slavery which left an huge impact on history, it was one of the most well known events that have happened in the U.S.A. This event lead to many other events such as the right for minorities to vote

1869 - 15th Amendment gives minority males the right to vote

This event was important because it gave the chance for minorities (Mainly blacks) the right to vote. This event lead to white people establishing literacy tests and the "Grandfather Clause" so blacks would have a hard time voting.

1896 - Many southern states pass laws to take voting rights from African-Americans

This event is important because it was a turning point for whites to not allow Blacks to be able to vote. This was very detrimental to blacks that wanted to vote, and those who thought they had total freedom.

1898 - Supreme court rules that literacy tests are constitutional

This event is important because this was one of the limiting factors for the blacks to vote, it stood as a strong barrier. This event lead to many blacks not being able to vote depending on how the test givers like the person.

1915 - Supreme Court declares "Grandfather Clause" unconstituional

This event was important because it allowed nearly all blacks to vote (Considering the state did not require Literacy tests), since most or all blacks grandfathers were slaves it was extremely unfair, the supreme court saw that, and declared it unconstitutional.

1920 - 19th Amendment grants the right to vote to women

This event is important because it gave women the chance to vote, for a long time women were considered lower then men, and because of that women had less privileges then men (In this case voting). Because of the 19th amendment women were slowly moving towards equality.

1937 - Supreme Court rules that poll taxes are constituional

This event is important because it was also one of the limiting factors for blacks to be able to vote. This mostly effected the blacks that were in poverty, and since most blacks had no opportunities to get a good job, they couldn't make money and therefore, couldn't vote.

1964 (February) - 24th Amendment outlaws poll taxes

This event was important because it allowed the blacks in poverty to be able to vote without paying any taxes, assuming they don't have to take the literacy tests, blacks could vote again with no trouble.

1964 (June) - Freedom Summer

1964

This event was important because freedom summer made a big impact back then as blacks weren't able to vote but still wanted to vote. This event soon lead to the death of the three in the poster below, it also lead to the Voting Rights Act.

1965 - Voting Rights Act

1965

This event is important because it was the solution to all minority problems in regards to voting. Blacks can finally vote without anything holding them back.
