  • Constitution is ratified

    Only white males who owned property were allowed to vote.
  • Religious qualifications dropped

    Last religious requirements for voting is eliminated.
  • Property requirements dropped

    property ownership and tax requirements eliminated by 1850. Almost all white adult citizens could vote.
  • 15th Amendment

    The 15th Amendment is passed. Any male of any race can vote.
  • 19th Amendment

    Guarantees womans suffrage.
  • 23rd Amendment

    Voters of the District Columbia are allowed to vote and participate in presidential elections.
  • 24th Amendment

    bans the poll tax as a requirement fpor voting in federal elections.
  • Voting Rights Act of 1965

    Protecting the rights of minority voters and eliminates voting barriers. This is exanded and renewed in 1970, 1975 and 1982.
  • 26th Amendment

    sets the voting age to 18.
