Voting Rights in the United States

  • Constitution is Ratified

    The Constitution, as it is known, is ratified.
  • Religious Qualifications Dropped

    It is no longer required for voters to fit the religious mold previously instated.
  • Property Requirements Dropped

    Voters are no longer required to own property. Gave suffrage to almost all adult white males.
  • 15th Amendment

    Former slaves now allowed to vote. Also ensured voting rights of all adult male citizens.
  • 19th Amendment

    Lady's suffrage happens.
  • 23rd Amendment

    Allowed the District of Columbia to participate in presidential elections.
  • 24th Amendment

    Banned the poll tax required in Federal elections.
  • Voting Rights Act of 1965

    Protects the rights of minority voters, as well as eliminating tests used to discriminate against said voters, such as the literacy test.
  • 26th Amendment

    Minimum voting age changed to 18.
