Voting Rights in the United States

  • 1789 - Constitution is ratified

    the three articles of the constitution are established and sepreate the power in to three branches
  • 1810 - Religious qualifications dropped

    Last religious prior condition for voting is eliminated
  • 1850 - Property requirements dropped

    All taxes on property ownership is eliminated and almost all white males can vote
  • 1867 - 15th Amendment

    The one amendment that allowes African-Americans men to vote
  • 1920 - 19th Amendment

    granted the right for American women to vote
  • 1961- 23rd Amendment

    gave Americans the right to vote for a commander in chief and vice president
  • 1964- 24th Amendment

    bans the poll taxes as a requierment for voting

    prevented from raising the voting age from 18
