Voting Rights in the United States

  • Constitution is ratified.

    Any white male that owned property could vote.
  • Religious qualifications dropped.

    The last standing religious prerequisite was dropped.
  • Property requirements dropped.

    The requirements to own property and taxes were dropped. This made it so that pretty much all white males could vote.
  • 15th Ammendment

    The 15th Ammendment was passed giving slaves the right to vote. This gave any male citizen of any race the right to vote.
  • 19th Ammendment

    The 19th Ammendment was passed giving women the right to vote.
  • 23rd ammendment

    The 23rd Ammendment was passed giving voters from the District of Columbia the right to vote on presidential elections.
  • 24th Ammendment

    The 24th Ammendment was passed which banned the requirement of poll tax for voting in federal elections.
  • Voting Rights Act of 1965

    This act drops the literacy test, other voting barriers and protects minority voters' rights.
  • 26th Ammendment

    The 26th Ammendment was passed making it so that only people of the age of 18 could vote.
