Voting Rights in the United States

  • Constitution is Ratified

    The constitution of the United States officially goes into affect.
  • Religious Qualifications Dropped

    You no longer had t be apart of a certain religion to vote.
  • Property requirements dropped

    No longer needed to own property to vote. Majority of white adult males could now vote.
  • 15th Amendment

    Former slaves now had the right to vote along with all other adult males.
  • 19th Amendment

    Women now have the righ to vote.
  • 23rd Amendment

    Residents of The District of Columbia can now vote in presidential elections.
  • 24th Amendment

    Poll tax no longer a requirement to vote
  • Voting Rights Act of 1965

    Voting rights of minorities are protected. No more barriers (eg. literacy test)
  • 26th Amendment

    The minimum voting age is set at 18
