Voting Rights in the United states

  • Constitution is Ratified

    Only rich, land owning white males can vote.
  • Religious qualifications dropped

    People no longer have to show that they are religious in anyway.
  • Property requirements dropped

    Almost all white males could vote, since you didn't need own any land to vote and there was no more tax requirements.
  • 15th Amendment

    Former slaves can vote and it protects voting rights of any male citizens, no matter what race they are.
  • 19th Amendment

    Women gain the right to vote finally.
  • 23rd Amendment

    Voters in the District of Colombia can participate in presidential elections.
  • 24th Amendment

    Poll tax is banned as a requirement for being able to vote in federal elections.
  • Voting Rights Act of 1965

    The Votings rights act bans voting barriers for minorities, such as a literacy test, and protects their voting rights.
  • 26th Amendment

    The voting age is set to a minimum of 18 years old.
