Voting Rights in America

  • Constitution is Ratified

    Only white males, who owned a home, were allowed to vote in America.
  • Religious Qualifications Dropped

    The last religious boundry on voting was abolished.
  • Property Requirements Dropped

    The rule where you had to own a property to vote was dropped, allowing almost all white males to vote.
  • 15th Amendment

    This allowed all past slaves to vote, and men of any race could also vote.
  • 19th Amendment

    Allowed women's sufferage.
  • 23rd Amendment

    allows the districts of Columbia to vote
  • 24th Amendment

    Bans the poll taxes for Elections
  • Voting Rights Act of 1965

    Protects the rights of minority voters. For example this eliminated the literacy test.
  • 26th Amendment

    This set the minimum voting age which is 18.
