  • LBJ calls MLK and asks how they should honor JFK's legacy.

  • 600 marchers led by SCLC member Hosea Williams and SNCC leader John Lewis cross the Edmund Pettus Bridge on their way to Montgomery. Alabama State Troopers meet them and demanded they disperse, leading to what is now known as Bloody Sunday.

  • Federally sanctioned march to Montgomery.

  • MLK delivers "I Have a Dream" speech.

  • LBJ delivers commencement address at Howard University, a predominantly African-American university.

  • Voting Rights Act passes through the Senate

  • LBJ signs the Voting Rights Act with MLK, ROsa Parks, and other civil rights figures.

  • MLK delivers his Beyond Vitenam: A Time to Break Silence speech at the Riverside Church in NYC
