Violeta Chamorro was born on October 18,1929.Her full name is Violeta Barrios de Chamorro.She was born into a rich cattle family.Her family was the only rich nicarguean family. -
Mourning
Her father was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and aftr her fathers death she returned to Nicaragua. -
Marrige
After her father's death she moved back to Nicaragua.Violeta meet Pedro Joaquim Chamorro Cardenal in 1949 and married him in 1950.She had five children with Pedro.The couple was forced into exile and had to live in Costa Rica for several years before returning. -
More Mourning
Her husband was imprisoned several times before he was assassinated on January 10,1978, while she was in Miami looking for a wedding dress for her daughter.The death of her husband sparked a revolution.After her husband's death she took over the post office that Pedro work and owned. -
Government
On July 20,1979 she joined the Board of Government of National Reconstruction. -
Presidential term
Violeta began he term as president on April 25,1990.She would go on to have 7 years as president of Nicaragua. -
End of presidental term
On January 10,1997 Violeta Chamorro ended her term as president.
