Ho Chi Minh was the founder of nationalist in Vietnam. He was also the founder of a group called the Vietnam Independence League. Even at a young age he wanted his county to have independence from the French or other countries.

The North responded with force as well as being communist and trying to fight for their freedom and take control of the South that was being controlled more by France and being aided by America.

Vietnam is split on the 17th parallel which split it into North and South Vietnam.

The United States responded with sending more military aid to South Vietnam as well as putting military advisers there as well. This battle was the end of the French involvement in Vietnam and the beginning of the American involvement.

The Domino Theory is that once one country is lost to communism than the countries around it will fall as well. This is applied in Vietnam and is one of the reason we got involved. In fear of South Vietnam falling into the hands of communist that were in the North. As well as surrounding countries becoming communist as well.

The were voting on who would be in charge when Vietnam was completely united. However, with this he saw that he had no chance winning against Ho Chi Minh so he cancelled the election so he could still be in charge of the South.

The National Liberation Front was also known as Viet Cong. They occupied Greece but also were in South Vietnam to try and over throw the South's government.

After President Kennedy what shot and killed November 22, 1963, Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn into presidency. If President Kennedy wouldn't have died the involvement in Vietnam would not have happened. Kennedy said that he wanted to back America out of Vietnam and no longer be involved in the civil war that was happening.

The ship that President Johnson said got fired on was called the USS Maddox. Since this happened President Johnson ended up getting more involved in the war with Vietnam than he was before.

The U.S. was sending military advisors since in September of 1950. It wasn't till 1965 when there was actual troops in Vietnam.

After the United States withdrew support Ngo Dinh Diem ended up getting assassinated November 2, 1963. Ngo Dinh Diem was the leader of South Vietnam and this ended up effecting the people of the South as well as the North taking over
