In 1965 in March, ‘Operation Rolling Thunder’ on Vietnam started and the first US combat troops were sent to Vietnam. By the end of the year, there were 200,000 US troops there. This massive bombardment was intended to put military pressure on North Vietnam’s Communist leaders. The operation became the most intense air/ground battle during the Vietnam War. After this attack, Vietnam made the biggest and effective ground-to-air defense, ever made.
