    Beginning of its decline

    Resigned from his position in early spring, Vincent traveled to Ramsgate, England, where he took up a position in a small boarding school. Later that year Vincent got a new job as a teacher and vicar with the Rev. T. Slade Jones, a minister of the Methodist church. On October 29, Vincent gives his first Sunday sermon. As Vincent's religious fervor increased, his mental and mental health began to decline.

    Vincent's formal religious studies end, but, determined to pursue his religious vocation, Vincent traveled to Borinage, a mining district of Belgium. The conditions for both Vincent and the miners are extremely bad. Vincent read the bible to the miners and lived in complete poverty.

    Vincent abandoned his religious pursuits and devoted himself exclusively to painting the miners and weavers afflicted by poverty. Theo began to financially support Vincent, a situation that continued until the end of Vincent's life. Later that year, Vincent undertakes certain formal studies of anatomy and perspective at the Brussels Academy.

    Vincent met Clasina Maria Hoornik (known as Sien) and they move in together. Sien is a prostitute with a five-year-old daughter who was also pregnant. While he continued his studies and continued painting, his mental state worsened again and he was hospitalized for three weeks for gonorrhea, their relationship lasts a year. Later I begin to experiment with oils, and he returns to his parents' house.

    After his father's death in March, Vincent continued with his work and, in the early spring, he painted what many consider his first great work, The Potato Eaters.
  • His return to Paris

    Wishing to continue with some more formal arts education, Vincent sent some of his work to the Antwerp Academy and placed him in a beginners class. Vincent didn't fit in very well with the Academy and left. Later that year he moved to Paris and lived with Theo.
    After arriving in Paris, Vincent began to study with Cormon (1845-1924) in his atelier.

    Vincent left Paris in February and moved to Arles in the south. Once spring arrived, he began to paint the blossoming of the landscapes of Provence. He moved to the "Casa Amarilla", a house he had rented to paint, and where he hopes to establish a community of artists. Vincent is extremely productive during this period, in which he paints a number of seaside landscapes, and also many of his most famous portraits.

  • Vincent's ear

    His friend Paul Gauguin moves in with Vincent in his "Yellow House". Gradually their relationship worsened until it was destroyed on December 23 when Vincent appears to have attacked Gauguin with a razor. Immediately after the failed attack, Vincent loses his head and cuts off his left lobe. She then wrapped him in a newspaper and introduced him to a prostitute from the local brothel she frequented. He is then hospitalized and shortly after Theo arrives from Paris to arrange for Vincent's care.

    Vincent shot himself in the chest with a pistol. He was found in his accommodation and a doctor was called. The bullet could not be removed.
    The last hours of his life went from complete mental anguish to apparent joy. Near the end, Theo climbed onto the bed with Vincent and cradled his head in his arms. Vincent said "I would like to die like this."
    Vincent died the following morning. The funeral took place shortly after and his coffin was covered with sunflowers, which he liked very much.
