    Rush of Immigrants

    From 1880 to 1920 a new rush of immigrants entered America. In the beginning a large majority of these new immigrants were of Irish and German background, as the popularity grew America soon became an even bigger Melting Pot. People from Southern and Eastern Europe would soon arrive, and even those from Asia. As the increase of immigrants steadily climbed in America, we began to see the “Melting Pot” of immigrants that America is today.

    Gilded Age

    After the war, factories and large companies grew exponentially.This economic growth threw the economy out of balance.In 1850 most Americans were self-employed, but by 1900 most Americans worked under an employer. With this extreme economic shift poverty ran rampant and the wealthy had only amassed more power.The economic power of the United States was controlled by a select few individuals. These people controlled most of all of American salaries

  • Wounded Knee

    Wounded Knee

    Wounded Knee took place when American troops moved 300 Sioux out of a reservation and into Wounded Knee Creek Reservation. The Sioux had been performing “ Ghost Dances” to represent their culture. The soldiers feared this and on December 29th ask the Sioux to surrender all their weapons, in doing so a stray shot was heard and the fighting ensued, American soldiers then killed 300 Sioux during the confusion, many women and children.

  • Spanish American War

    Spanish American War

    The Spanish-American war was fought through the territories of Cuba and the Philippines. At the end of the war, the Treaty of Paris was signed and America was awarded the Philippines islands, Guam, and Puerto Rico. Spain was awarded $20 million dollars for its losses throughout the war. The war claimed the lives of around 400 American soldiers, But the following conflict of the Philippine Insurrection claimed the lives of nearly 4,000 more.

    Uniting the movement was the idea that laissez-faire, Social Darwinism, and the Gilded Age were morally incorrect. Those who believed in progressivism believed the government and its people had the power to correct abuses produced by nature and a free market. The Progressive Era produced National and state regulations, Plus amendments to the Constitution. At this time political movements such as women's suffrage allied in progressivism.

    During the time of the Gilded Age most Americans worked 10 hour shifts 6 days a week.They would work without medical coverage and in illness, with no retirement funds.They banded together to demand changes, knowing companies couldn't function without them.Bosses often took Extreme Measures of intimidation and violence to prevent unionization of the workers.Slowly unions did grow, to give common workers better pay and treatment in their work placesText link}

    America entering WWI

    In the beginning stages of the war American sought to remain neutral, keeping trade with both sides of the war. The British set blockades to cut off American trade with the Germans, because of this trade between Great Britain and America tripling between 1914 and 1916. While trade with Germany would drop by nearly 90%. Germany's response was to attack American vessels at sea. This was the turning point for America in which they entered the war

    The Market Crash

    Many American people would invest whatever money they could into the stock market in hopes that it would one day nearly triple in investment price. Banks would allow these people to withdraw 75% all of the money they placed into these stocks, But with 20% interest rates. These people believed that it was well worth the risk . After the crash Americans were so deep in debt after losing their money they would be forced to sell their possessions.

    The New Deal

    President Roosevelt signed legislation with the main purpose of improving unemployment throughout the nation, to fix and reform banks in stock markets after the crash. He proposed new ideas of publicly owned Electric Power by the public and not individuals. The proposed deals aided industrialists and laborers alike. He sought to regain the Public's trust in the government through treating them in ways he believed would benefit them as a whole.

    The American automation factories entering World War II fueled simultaneously the warfront on the Atlantic and Pacific. America entering the war was the final push the Allied Powers needed to overcome the Axis powers. In World War II over 400,000 Americans perished, this death toll only second to the American Civil War.Upon entering the war America Brought a new wave with more power that allowed them to overpower the Axis and take Germany.

  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor

    In December of 1941 Japanese bombers attacked ships docked in Pearl Harbor, causing chaos and destruction. The Japanese believe this would be a crippling attack on the Americans and they would lose their grip on the territories that surrounded. Almost 3,000 Americans were killed and six battleships were destroyed and rendered unseaworthy. Unluckily for the Japanese, it did not deter the US, but instead because a rallying point for the US.

    D-Day

    Just after midnight on June 6th three Airborne divisions parachuted behind enemy lines. D-Day was the largest Armada assembled ever in history, as French, American, British, and Canadian troops crossed the channel. There were 5 Landing points Gold and Sword assigned to the British, Juno for the Canadiens, Utah and Omaha for the Americans. Omaha saw the largest casualty rates of all the landings. But by night fall the beaches had been taken.

    War in The Pacific/ Bomb Drops

    The war in the Pacific was very brutal due to the fact that the Japanese had a motto of No Surrender.Even after clear defeat was in sight the Japanese would not surrender. Island hopping was a method introduced by the Americans as a way to get closer to the main island of Japan without an all out full frontal attack on the main island. Once close enough they dropped two atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The Japanese surrendered after this.

    The basis of the domino theory was the belief that if one country had become communist, surrounding countries would follow suit. The fear was brought upon that the Soviets would spread communism to neighboring countries in those countries would trickle down communism until it reached the United States. Thus The United States actively sought to prevent the spread of Communism in Southeast Asia.

    Reagnomics was a theory that the economy would progress better if there were fewer taxes upon the wealthier individuals in America. The idea was if the wealthier had more money to spend, they would spend the money and increase the overall flow of economic increase in the United States. Reaganomics sought to lower taxes on the more wealthy to increase Financial game instability for all Americans.
