  • Sand Creek Massacres

    Sand Creek Massacres

    The desire for native land grew with the western American population. Hostility between natives and Americans grew as they were pushed off their land. Lead by colonel John Chivington, on November 29, 1864, volunteer soldiers were instructed to "kill and scalp all, big and little". at a small Cheyenne Indian village in Sand Creek Colorado.   • The Gilded Age

    The Gilded Age

    The Gilded Age was a span of time from the 1870s to the 1920s. During this time we saw a tremendous industrial and economic growth. The economy nearly doubled from 1877 to 1893 however, the majority of the wealth was in the hands of the "so-called captains of industry" such as John D. Rockefeller, J. Piermont Morgan, and Andrew Carnegie. Source

    Chinese Exclusion Act

    The Chinese Exclusion Act was put in place in 1882 during the boom of American immigration. People were rushing to come to America to get a taste of the massive industrial growth of the gilded age. After racial purists and nativists agreed to suppress the inflow of immigrants, the congress passes the Chinese Exclusion act which limited immigration, specifically from China. Source

    Federal Trade Commission

    Critics rejected Roosevelt. He had plans for the people. He had the workers safety and security in mind. He helped create the federal trade commission. This protected the people from corrupt business practices, it gave them a minimum wage, restricted child labor, etc.

    America In WWI

    The British tried to stop America from trading with Germany. Between 1914 and 1916, trade with France and England nearly tripled while trade with Germany was cut by almost 90%. As a result, the Germans attacked the Americans, and then, after 2.5 years of neutrality, we got evolved in the war. Source
  • Treaty of Versailles

    Treaty of Versailles

    Woodrow Wilson proposed the Treaty of Versailles as some sort of a peace offering. He wanted to lift trade barriers, free the seas, agree on borders, etc. Unfortunately, his offering was declined. Nobody wanted to compromise, nobody wanted peace, they just wanted Germany to admit that they started the war, and they wanted Germany to pay for the repairs. Source
