    Shortly after the Civil War America transcended into a period of troubleing times. Through the 20th century, nations become shaped to how they are today.
  • Immigration

    A wave of immigrants from all over the world came to the United States seeking financial oppurtunity, and their own shot at the American Dream.Many mericans can trace their family back to Ellis Island, where millions of european immigrants came into the U.S. Large scale immigration almost completely halted after the 1920s however.
  • Wealth Gap "GIlded Age"

    Wealth Gap "GIlded Age"
    The ideology of a significant wealth gap between the rich upper class and the poor lower class during the Gilded Age. This weath barrier would ussually seperate groups by social and economic stature.
  • Gilded Age

    Gilded Age
    This period in American History lasted until the late 19th century. The term gilded refers to the coorperate dominance of wealth, compared to the tremendous amount of poverty and poor living condition for most citizens. During this time industrial output had increased so much, cities drew rural citizens from all around the U.S. because they had job oppurtunitys; The job conditions of factory workers was unsafe, so worker groups formed Unions to demand certain work rights from management.

    From the 1880's, The U.S. gained several foreign territories. Including Panama, Puerto Rico, and the Phillipenes. The United States ceased to promote any imperialism after this time period though, yet are still viewed as social and economic imperialists today.

    From 1914, major nations in europe were at war. The United States didnt get involved in the conflict. until intercepted German plots for offensive against the U.S. and pressure from newly immigrated citizens encouraged involvement. By the end of the War, there were almost 10 thouhsand casulties.

    Throughout the early 20th century factories and manufacturing employed thouhsands of unskilled workers for low wages, including children.
  • Great Depression

    Great Depression
    An underlying credit deficit of many americans invested in the stok market causes a extreme downfall in stock prices. This span of economic downturn, lasts well into the next decade. From this period of time came alot of literature and government influence, such as the novel "The Grapes of Wrath" by John Steinbeck.
  • American Dream

    American Dream
    The social idealogy that every American has the oppurtunity to become sucessful through hard work. as James Truslow Adams defines it "Life should be better and richer and fuller, with oppurtunity for each acording to ability or achievement.
  • New Deal

    New Deal
    A number of federal programs put into effect through until 1936, established by President Roosevelt. These programs ussually were expressed in acronyms, such as the TVA, CCC, or the WPA. These programs helped employ thousands of jobless workers, giving them a financial oppurtunity through the Great Depression. Most of these programs were dropped shortly after the Great Depression ended, because they were seen as to federally imposing.

Music, Art, and Literature skills in urban African American communities, was becoming more popular and influencial.     WWII
    Chancellor Hitler of Nazi Germany, orders his "Blitzkrieg" troops into Poland, therefore starting World War II. THis millitary conflict involved several nations and about 5 years of war, resulting in 50-70 million worldwide casulties. The U.S. did not become involved until 1944, when Japan air raided Pearl Harbor Hawaii and destroyed several large naval fleets.

    Civil Rights movement
    A social movement by the African American population of American citizens. They demanded federal government give all races, equal justice and rights. The civil rights movement included protests with violent police enforcement, rioting, and important figureheads such as Marthin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X.
  • Vietnam War

    Vietnam War
    The United States enters the Vietnam War. This millitary conflict was a proxy war of the Cold War, Democratic backed Southern Vietnam fought against Ho Chi Min's North Vietnamese communist regime. Public Opinion throughout the period of war dramatically influenced government's role in the conflict. The war ended with the fall of Saigon on April 30, 1975, with over 53,000 United States casulties.

    President Reagan begins his presidential campaign, which lasted a full 2 terms until 1988. President Reagan was an important president, because he helped end the Cold War and cut federal taxes and economic involvement.

    The "third wave" feminist movement lasted through the 1980s in the 1990s. It was a social movement that called upon the federal government to grant equal political rights to women. It was a particularily important movement in American History, because it called on an entire gender of members to create a political influence.

    A political conflict that lasted decades after WWII, from 1946 to 1991, The Cold War, never cam to an actual millitary conflict between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. However proxy wars and arms races led to tens of thouhsands of Americn casulties. By the end of the Soviet Union, the U.S. became the world's leading superpower and dominated foreign influence from then on.

    President Clinton won the 1992 presidential election and became the 42nd president of the united states, running 2 terms until 2000. His campaign is best known for the period of economic stability in the United States; However he is also known for being the 2nd president to ever be impeached, eventhough he did not leave his office until the end of his term.

    The idea that humanity can form history through our influence on it today. An underlying aspect of this is to not make the mistakes of the past, and reform it with peaceful intentions to promote a better lifestyle for people in the United States, and the world.

    Globalization could also refer to the United States foreign policy, which seems to decree the U.S. "World Police", from the perspective of foreign nations.
