  • James Town

    James Town was the first English settlement in 1607. The first slave ship in 1619 was not filled with real slaves but with servants that served until their obligations were completed these types of slaves were better known as indentured servants , so they worked until they paid their way to freedom.
  • Slave Code

    Slave Code
    In 1712, there were a growing number of African American slaves; this made the white settlers scared of an uprising and rebellion within their slave’s. This fear forced them to create a series of behaviors that would be “appropriate” for the slaves to do these rules were known as the Slave Code. Some examples of the codes were African Americans were not allowed to own slaves and also they were not allowed to gather without a white person present.

    The stamp act was imposed by the British Parliament aimed directly at the colonists. The tax made colonist pay taxes on every piece of printed paper they used. For example ship papers, Newspapers and licenses. The tax was not high but was used by England to raise money in the colonies without going through the colonial legislatures.

  • Bunker Hill

    The battle lasted through three waves the Americans were on top of the hill an very well positioned and the British had to march up the hill to get to the Americans. the first wave most of the british soldiers were either killed or injured ,during the second wave the Americans again dominated but when it came to the third attack on the Americans they were running low on ammunition and over taken. Almost half of the British men were either killed or seriously injured in this battle.

    The legal document known as the "The Declaration of Independence," was drawn up to state in writting the reasons for America to separate from Britian. It was a tool for trying to gleen financial or miltary help from Britians enemies. Words tht we hold dear to our American herriage, "That all men are created equal," that give American's a commitment to human equality.

    Fedral Constitution
    The Federal Constitution drafted by a group of men in 1787 was the new plan for the nation. After it was drafted it was than shown to the public so that the people could consider it. What the new Constitution did was give a strong central government that had control over the states, This also gave the people the right to decide weather or not to except this constitution.     In 1787 George Washington was a political leader at the constitutional meeting. At the meeting George was elected the preceding officer. Next he agreed to became a presidential candidate .   • Eli Whitney

    Eli Whitney Graduated Yale and immediately moved south. He stayed on a plantation of a widow named Mrs Nathaniel Green in 1792. Eli created a tool that used to move stiff brushes through raw cotton. These teeth removed allot of the nettlesome seeds. Before this it took ten hours to remove these seeds for only a pound of cotton but after a while the Device known as the cotton Gin which can produce a thousand pounds of cotton a day.http://www.ushistory.org/us/27a.asp

    During the year 1812 Louisiana became the first state to become apart of the union. From all the land that was purchased Louisiana was able to enter the Untied states with its French legal traditions that were already taking place.     In 1830 the South Carolina Canal and the Rail Road company were put together. These were created to help create trade within the inner States. The first Steam locomotive used was made at the West Point Foundry located in New York city. This was the First steam locomotive to be made and sold in the United states its name was The Best Friend Of Charleston.     James Marshall in 1848 spotted something shining in the sun. These shinny flakes were gold. He saw the flecks in Sutters mill. Soon word spread everywhere about gold in California. Soon almost 80,000 people or ‘’Forty Niners’‘made there way to California to see if they could become instantly rich.

    Harriet Beecher Stowe
    Harriet Beecher Stowe was born into a family that was made up of preachers. While living in Cincinnati She became engaged with actual runaway slaves and the stories they told her broke her heart so in 1851 her sister convinced her to write a book that was published.     Emancipation Proclmation
    This was not used to free slaves at all. Lincolm when he made this did not have controll over confederate states however this did give him the right to get and recieve recorces from his enimies. This he said would shorten the war by taking the south's recorces thus making them weaker.

    In 1864 President Lincoln picked Johson who was a Democratic senitor to be in office with him serving as his vice president. By picking Johnson Lincoln was in hopes to change the mind of people in the south and to obtain some southern votes who never wanted to leave the union.

    Impeachment of Johnson
    In 1868 Andrew Johnson became the first president to be impeached. This is the legal way to get someone out of office if the person was acused of misconduct. The Republican House brought 11 articles of impeachment against president Johnson. Allot of the people on the inside were aware that COngress was out to get an uncoopertive President.
