    (Also called Seven Years War) A war fought to determine whether the French or the British would get the stronger power in North America. Resulted in the British winning and the Treaty of Paris being signed, declaring Britain claiming multiple territories.

    The transition to new manufacturing processes in Europe and the United States, in the period from about 1760 to sometime between 1820 and 1840.

    A law enforced on the American Colonies that enforced the rate of tax on molasses and sugar.

    A colonial revolt between the American colonists and Britain. It began with the initial passing of the Stamp act and ended with the ratification of the United States Bill of Rights.
  • Quartering Act

    An act enforced on the American Colonies that had the colonies to provide British soldiers with Barracks.
  • Stamp Act

    A law enforced on the American Colonies that required a tax on every piece of printed paper
  • Declaratory Act

    An act enforced on the American Colonies that declared that Britain's taxing authority is the same in America as it is in the UK.
  • Townshend Act

    A series of laws enforced on the American Colonies that placed new taxes and took away some freedom from colonists such as: New taxes on imports of paper, paint, lead, glass, and tea.
  • Boston Massacre

    A street fight between the British and American Colonists. The Americans began by throwing snowballs, sticks, and stones. The British fought back and killed several colonists.
  • Boston Tea Party

    A protest that resulted in American colonists, frustrated and angry at Britain for imposing “taxation without representation,” dumping 342 chests of tea, imported by the British East India Company into the harbor.
  • Tea Act

    The passing of the tea act allowed no more taxes on the American colonists, but tea was already taxed since the passing of the Townshend Act.
  • Intolerable Act

    Laws passed by the British Parliament meant to punish the Massachusetts colonists for their defiance in the Tea Party protest.
  • 1st Continental Congress

    A congress in which all the American colonies except for Georgia sent delegates. The main goal that they strived to achieve from this was to boycott all British goods.

    The Bill of Rights was ratified by Virginia, allowing the passage of the first ten amendments to the Constitution.

    Resulted in the making of Judicial Review
  • Louisiana Purchase

    The acquisition of the territory of Louisiana by the United States from France in 1803 for about $18 per square mile in which they got 828,000 square miles.
