The Compromise of 1850
Henry Clay made the Compromise of 1850. It provided California as a free state to add to the union. For the south, the Compromise created a more effective fugitive slave law. And for the north and the south, it provided popular sovereignty. -
Election of 1860
In the presidential election in 1860, Republicans nominated Abraham Lincoln. The south had a problem with Lincoln because he wanted the spreading of slavery to end. After Lincoln won, South Carolina started the succession of the south. -
Bull Run
At the beginning of the battle the union was winning. With a turning point with Stonewall Jackson, it was the first southern victory. -
Forming the Confederate States of America
After South Carolina left the union, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas followed. They formed The Confederate States of America. Making Jefferson Davis their first president. -
Fort Sumter
After Lincoln sends his men food and supplies, Jefferson Davis orders his troops to take Fort Sumter. The Confederate States of America opens fire first on the fort. -
Antietam
This is one of the earlier battles in Maryland. 12,000 men killed in the first 3 hours. Battle ended up being a draw . -
Emancipation Proclamation
This freed all enslaved people in rebellious states. -

Abraham Lincoln's speech for everyone who died in The Gettysburg battle. -

"Turning Point" Lee's Army was looking for supplies. by the end of the 3 day fight, 5,000 killed making it an union victory. -

This is the battle where the south starts falling apart. It cuts south in half, and Grant placed in command of all union forces. -
