    The British went to war against new France for Indian territory in Ohio river valley. British won and gained the land but then went into debt.
  • Sons of Liberty

    Sons of Liberty
    A secret organization to fight the British laws. Played a big role in fighting back against the stamp act.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    An act the British put on the colonies where the colonist would have to pay for a little stamp on any legal document. Colonist got it removed by 1766 only a year later.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    British soldiers opened fire on American colonists killing five men because they were being harassed by a group of colonists that were angry about the new taxes. It was an important event because it would anger the colonists and eventually lead to the Revolutionary War.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    A protest by the sons of liberty against the taxation of tea. The sons of liberty group dressed as Indians and boarded a british ship and dumped crates of tea in the harbor.
  • Second Continental Congress meets

    Second Continental Congress meets
    A meeting of delegates from 12/13 colonies to join each other in the revolutionary war
  • Declaration of Independence adopted

    Declaration of Independence adopted
    The declaration showed that the colonist wanted independence and meant that they cut their political ties to Great Britain

    The original constitution of the USA and was ratified in 1781. It was later replaced by the constitution in 1789

    An agreement between the large and small states that would define the legislative structure and representation that each state would have.

    The constitution was first ratified by Delaware in 1787 to a unanimous vote 30-0. Constitution was ratified
