The war came to an end in 1989 when the Berlin Wall came down. The war would take an additional 2 years to be completely over as the USSR would dissolve. The ending of this war resulted in the United States of America becoming the only super power, in the world. I selected this event because this was what the US was working for, for so many years. I think that this was the start of true American pride and joy to be an American. The unthinkable was done.

This storm left behind 5.5 billion dollars in damages alone. Eating everything in it's path, leaving nothing behind. Duncan, a recently retired meteorologist of 40 years; spoke on the intense storm. The storm left single digit temps to the mid-South during spring. The South to New England were hit with fierce winds and coastal flooding were also major issues. This was on of the first major storms which is why I choice the event. Almost like preparation for what is to come. (The Washington Post) -
The World Cup that the US hosted, is still the most successful Fifa event to date. 24 teams played in 52 games. The US spent 5 billion dollars to make the World Cup happen; there were costs for everything, safety, netting, plexiglass, and overall preparation for this massive event. There was even some intense controversy about the tournament; between failed drug tests and even murder. This event seemed significant to me because it was on ehe first big events the US executed.

The Oklahoma City bombing was a domestic terrorist attack taking place using a truck with a bomb inside, the exact location was Alfred P Murrah Federal Building. The attacker was Timothy McVeigh, and Terry Nichols. There were 168 deaths and 680 injuries. Some stated that the event made them more compassionate, and reminded them life is short. This was the first terrorist attack on the United States of America. I chose this event because it is almost the preview to what is to come.

The budget crisis occurred not once but twice; happening in November 1995. This was the first time that the federal government had ever shut down, and also the first time the budget included cuts. To put the situation in simple terms there was a disagreement between the House of Reps and the administration of the President. Which in all, led to the shut down. Large inflows today may lead to large out flows tomorrow.

The Combine shooting was a mass shooting and attempted bombing committed by two teens who were seniors at the school, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold. 15 were killed and 24 injuries. The two made home videos prior to the attacks, showing what was coming. This event was significant because of the fact that I am a future educator, and this shooting changed the face of teaching. Shootings are now a major concern for all during the school day & will soon be one of mine.

The attacks on the twin towers on September 11th would change America forever. I choice this event because it hit close to home. I am from Long Island and have many family members who were first responders. This was the largest terrorist attack since Oklahoma. Done by Bin Landens Organization left 2,752 dead at the Towers, 184 at the Pentagon and the deaths of all 249 passengers on 4 planes. First responders to the attacks, are still losing their lives today- due to complications.

Hurricane Katrina touched down in Louisiana on August 23rd, and lasted until August 31st. The monster storm was categorized as a #5 hurricane. The highest wind speed hit was 174 mph, and the total number of fatals was 1,392. The damage and debris ranged from man made things all the way to vegetation. This was the greatest amount of damage made by a hurricane since 1992. As of 2009 the clean up and debris removal was not yet complete.

Barack Obama was the 44th president and the first ever African American president of the United States. He was the first President that I remember being sworn in. The first time I was aware of what was happening. On the day he was sworn in, 1.5 million people gathered along a parade route. Obama was known for many things; one of them being his strong ties to his family. He also was a great "communicator" he was very open with the American people. This made him liked by many.

Taking place in 2010 in Vancouver. Held 2,566 athletes from 82 different countries. The USA, Canada and Germany won the most medals. America won the most total medals that number was 37. While Canada won the most gold medals, which was 14. There was actually even some controversy from the games, about athletic injury and the negotiation of athletic identity. For me this was the first time I really sat and watched sports like this. Making this a very memorable experience for me.
