    The American Revolutionary War ended 2 centuries of British rule for most of North American colonies and created the modern U.S.A.The Revolutionary War era was exilarating.At the time of progress for some ,dislocation for others.In the wake of the Revolution came events as varied as the drafting and ratification of the Constitution of the United States of America and the rebellions of slaves who saw the contrast between slavery and proclamations of liberty.

    In 1860 seven southern states seceded from the union to form the Confederate States of America. On 12th April 1861 Confederates attacked Ft. Sumter in Charleston SC marking the start of the war. Four more states join the confederacy. It lasted for 5 years from 1861-1865. On Apr 9 1865 the Union won the war after Confederate General Robert E Lee surrendered.The Civil war unified the North and South. On Jan 1 1863 Lincoln issued his Emancipation Proclamation freeing all slaves.

    Three years after the war began in 1914 United States enters world war I declaring war on Germany on April 6 1917. The US joined the allies Britain, France, Russia, Italy and Japan who were at war with the central powers Germany, Austria and Turkey. The treaty of Versailles was signed in 1919 after the centeral power surrendered to allies. Germany was forced to return the territory it claimed during the war to France, Poland , Belgium and Denmark.

    Pearl Harbor is a United States Navy base located on the island of Oahu in the state of Hawaii.On 7 December, 1941, the Empire of Japan launched a sneak attack on Pearl Harbor. The goal of the Japanese attack was to cripple the Pacific Fleet,making it difficult for the United States to enter into the growing World War. In the attack, an estimated 2,350 people were killed, while 19 ships and over 200 planes were destroyed or severely disabled.The attack launched the U.S into the 2nd World War.

    The Vietnam War struck some where between 1964 and 1975 between North Vietnam (aided by the Soviet Union) and South Vietnam ( aided by the U.S) It was fought in South Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. In Vietnam the war was also known as " War Against the Americans and to Save the Nation".The purpose of the war was to contain communism until it collapsed.

    The civil rights movement began in the 1950s when Rosa Parks refused to be segregated on a Montgomery, Alabama, bus.Martin Luther King, Jr became the leader of the civil rights movement and he advocated civil disobedience, the non-violent resistance against unjust laws.The Civil Rights bill was passed on July 2, 1964 by president Lyndon B Johnson . Segregation and Discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion or country of origin became illegal.

    Apollo 11
    Apollo 11 was the first mission to land a man on the moon. Americans Neal Armstrong , Buzz Aldrin, and Micheal Collins blasted off on a Saturn V rocket at 9:30 EDT on July 16, 1969. 6 hours after landing. Neil Armstrong made the first footprints on the moons surface at 10:56 pm EDT on July 20. The landing is the greatest technological achievements of all time.

    9/11
    On Sept 11,2001 terrorist hijacked 4 planes and used them to attack the United States.They flew 2 of the hijacked planes at the World Center in New York City.This cause a big explosion and the buildings collapsed. Another plane destroyed part of the Pentagon.The fourth plane crashed in Pennsylvania. Nearly 3,000 people were killed in these attacks.The day is remembered as 9/11. After 9/11 the US government took many steps to make the country safer by tightening security at airport and buildings

    In Nov 2008 Barak Obama won the US General election for US Presidency. On January 20 2009 he was inaugurated to become the 44th and current president on United States of America. He is the first African American to hold the office. He was born on Aug 4 1961 in Honolulu Hawaii. He was a civil rights lawyer before pursuing a political carrier.
    The major accomplishments of Obama are - Ending the war in Iraq, Passing Health Careerform, eliminated Osama Bin Laden.

    The Wright Brothers from USA invented the first airplane.
    The Wright Brothers, Wilbur and Orville began working on the idea of building airplanes in 1899. They finally succeeded in flying the first airplane on 17th December, 1903. It was a historic day, since many attempts to manufacture an airplane had earlier met with failure. The invention of airplane changed the way we travel and also became important part of defense services.
