    Spanish American War

    A direct result of US imperialism, the Spanish American war was a conflict between the US and Spain after the US became involved in the Cuban revolution against Spain. This involvement was caused by the US attempting to gain Cuba, as well as other Spanish possesions. This eventually led to US involvement in Latin America and other areas increasing exponentially.
  • Roosevelt Corollary

    Roosevelt Corollary
    Declared by Theodore Roosevelt during his State of the Union Address in 1904, the Roosevelt Corollary allowed the US to be militarily involved in Latin America, this furthered dollar deplomacy in Latin America as well as US imperialism.
  • Zimmerman Telegram

    Zimmerman Telegram
    After the US isolationist attitude had proved useful in avoiding the WWI conflict in Europe, Germany, supposedly in an attempt to attack and control the US, allegedly sent a telegram to the Mexican government, urging them to attack the US. This telegram was intercepted by the British, and was given to the US. This Telegram was one of the defining factors for the US entering WWI.

    US Invovement in WWI

    Officially declaring war on Germany on April 6th 1917, the United States then officially entered WWI on the Allied side, eventually declaring war on German ally Austria-Hungary in December of 1917. US involvement ended with the Treaty of Versailles, which also concluded WWI itself.
  • Wilson's 14 Points

    Wilson's 14 Points
    During the end of WWI Woodrow Wilson spoke in front of Congress and layed out a plan, consisting of 14 major points, to attempt to avoid further international conflicts. The points consisted of creating an international peace organization, later called the League of Nations. These 14 points were also included as part of the base for the Treaty of Versailles that ended WWI.

    Stimson Doctrine
    The Stimson Doctrine was put in place by the US in direct response to increased imperialism from Japan in taking over parts of China and the rest of East Asia. The doctrine declared that the US would not recognize any possesion obtained through force.

    US Peacetime Draft
    The first of its kind, FDR issued a peacetime draft in October of 1940 in preperation of the seemingly inevitable involvement of the US in WWII.
  • Japanese Attacks Pearl Harbor

    Japanese Attacks Pearl Harbor
    After The US began their embargo on Japan in response to their imperialistic nature, taking over parts of China and Korea, which stopped the supply of certain materials, including oil, from reaching Japan. This, along with tensions between the US and Japan lead to an attack on many US airbases in the Pacific, the most devastating being at the Pearl Harbor Naval Base in Hawaii.

    US Involved in WWII

    After the US declared war on Japan in response to Pearl Harbor, Germany and Italy, Japanese allies, declared war on the US. This led to the United States becoming involved in European battles and conflicts. Eventually the Allied side was victorious over the Axis powers. WWII did not end for the US once European conflicts stopped however, fighting in Japan continued until August of 1945, when two atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan then surrendered on August 14.

    Atomic Bomb Dropped on Hiroshima
    After fighting had concluded in Europe during WWII, the United States, in an attempt to avoid further conflict, developed and dropped two seperate atomic bombs on two large Japanese cities. Hiroshima. the most devastating of the two, with over 150,000 people being killed or injured.
