  • The Years of the Revolutionary War

    The Years of the Revolutionary War
    June 1776 the Americans were in full control of every state, but then the British Royal Navy captured New York City and made it their main base. That Americans persuaded France to help them the war in early 1778, balancing the two sides' military strength. Spain and the Dutch Republic (French allies) also went to war with Britain over the next four years. The war ended in April 15, 1783.
  • The Signing of the Declaration of Independence

    The Signing of the Declaration of Independence
    On this day Continental Congress signed the Declaration of Independence in Independence Hall. 56 members of congress signed the Declaration. The youngest signer was Edward Rutledge at age 26. The oldest was Ben Franklin at age 70.
  • Ratification of the United States Constitution

    Ratification of the United States Constitution
    May 1787 the Constitution begins its radification in May on 1787 and ends with Rhode Island in May of 1790. The Constitution was adopted on September 17, 1787, by the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and ratified by conventions in eleven States.

    The Louisiana Purchase
    In 1802 Spain shut down the New Orleans port and turned it over to France. According to Mcdougal Littell, angry westerners called for war with both France and Spain, but President Thomas Jefferson offered to buy New Orleans instead. France asked if the United States wanted to buy all of the Louisiana territory, which was bigger than all of the United States at the time. Then on April 30, 1803, the Louisiana Purchase was approved for 15 million dollars.

    The Lewis and Clark Journey (1803-1805)
    Lewis and Clark set out in the summer of 1803 (says Mcdougal Littell). They goal was to find a water way that led across the United States. when they returned they came back with a wealth of valuable information (says Mcdougal Littell). It is important to the United States today because it gave us a better understanding of the west. The Lewis and Clark expedition was ended in November of 1805 (by Mcdougal Littell)
  • Texas Revolution

    Texas Revolution
    The Texas Revolution started by Austin going to Mexico city to present a list of requested forms to Mexican officals (acording to Mcdougal Littell), for Texas had become a self-governed state within Mexico. In April of 1836 Texas won the war and was a free nation. It is important to the United States because it made Texas become a free state.
  • Donner Party

    Donner Party
    The Donner Party was a California Trail wagon train of eighty-one American pioneers who in 1846 found themselves trapped by snow in the Sierra Nevada (Wikipedia). The Donner Party was informed that they were taking a shortcut but it really added another 100 miles to the trip, and a snow storm had them trapped on the mountain for five months (Histry.com). Search parties found them at the end of the winter.
  • California Gold Rush

    California Gold Rush
    The Gold Rush atarted when a carpender named James Mrashall made a discovery in the American River (by Mcdougal Littell). By 1849 people from all over California and the United States came to look for gold. The Gold Rush ended in 1852 and brought 250,000 people into California (Mcdougal Littell).
  • Fugitive Slave Act

    Fugitive Slave Act
    The Fugitive slave act was a law that allowed any fugitive caught to be taken back to the South and put into slavery. It was created to calm the political situation. The slaves caught and held wothout an arrest warrant. Southerners backed up the fugitive slave act because they considered slaves to be property. (Information: Mcdougal Littell)
  • Uncle Tom's Cabin

    Uncle Tom's Cabin
    Published in 1852, Uncle Tom's cabin a book that showed actually events that happened in the South. The book told about the cruel owners, and families being torn apart. The South said the book gave a false impression of slavery. In the North the book became a best seller. (Site: McDougal Littell)
  • Bleeding Kansas

    Bleeding Kansas
    During the election of March 1855, there were more proslavery than antislavery. After five thousand people voted illegally, the Kansas legislature was filled with proslavery representatives. Both sides had a mini civil war. The area this happened is now called "bleeding Kansas." (Mcdougal Littell)

    John Wilksbooth assassinated president Abraham Lincoln at Ford's Theater, Washington D.C. He was shot because John Wilksbooth wanted to help the confederates.

    World war one started on july 28, 1914, and ended November 11, 1918. The war had ove 70 million soldiers and nearly 12 million died. By the end of the war Eruope's economy was destroyed and its goverment was overthrown and extremly disorganized.

    The First Appearance of Superman in Action Comics
    Superman appeared in the action comics, by Dective Comics Inc. (D.C. Comics). Oringinly written by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster, who then sold it to D.C. comics. The story of superman starts in Krypton. As an infant, his father sends him in a rocket to deep space, just as the planet explodes. The rocket lands on a Kansas fram, where superman is raised as Clark Kent. As he grows older he relizes his super human abilities and uses them for good.

    On december 7th of 1941 Japan launched two waves of warplan 275 miles north of Pearl Harbor.

    A little past eight o'clock a five ton atomic bomb was dropped on Japan's 8th largest city. The blast killed 80,000 thousand people and just as many later from radiation. The blast detonated 2,000 feet above the city, sending anything a mile and a half to ground zero.

    Spider-Man first appeared in Marvels and was created by their writer and editor. Stan Lee and writer and artist Steve Diko, in the early 1960's. Spider-Man has many nicknames and is an orphan who lives with his Uncle Ben and Aunt Mary. After his uncle gets murdered Spider-Man uses his power for good.

    Space Shuttle Challenger broke apart 73 seconds into its flight, 9 miles above Flordia. All seven crew members died from the explosion. Destruction from the rocket started after an O-ring in the right booster failed at liftoff.
