  • Jamestown Settlement

    The first English settlement in the New World was at Jamestown in 1607. It was established by Captain John Smith and 105 cavaliers in 3 ships which landed on the coast of Virginia. It was built on the river for security purposes. Its main source of income was tobacco, though the settlers were looking for gold.
  • French and Indian War

    There was war between France and British. The colonies suffered major debts during this time. Peace was restored on the 10th of February, 1763. France lost Canada and Midwest.
  • Bill of Rights

    Bill of RightsOn Sept. 25, 1789, the Bill of Rights was submitted to the states. It was put in to effect on the 15th of December. It is the first ten amendments of the constitution. When the writers wrote it it was against the law, had they not had the support that they did, then they wouldhave gone to jail for tyrancy.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    It was the purchase of 828,000 miles of land from the French. It cost about 15 million dollars, which cost about 233 million dollars in todays money. It bought the government about 15 states including most of South Dakota. It was called the Louisianna because it was important that New Orleans was a part of the deal, because it is such an important port city.
  • Telegraph

    A telegraph message sent by an electrical telegraph operator or telegrapher using Morse code.The first telegraph was sent by Samuel F.B. Morse from Washington to Baltimore. It was used in the civil war to pass on battle plans. It worked much better than the origional word of mouth or written plans.
  • Mexican War

    Mexican and American War Mexico lost nearly half of its territory, the present American Southwest from Texas to California, and the United States became a continental power. Mexico and the US clashed over the Texas border. War was declared by the US on the 13th of May 1846 after the annexation of Texas.
  • Assassination of Lincoln

    Abraham LincolnIt happened on Good Friday while the Cival war was coming to a close. It happened five days after the confederacy surrendered. He was murdered by a well-known stage actor, John Wilks Booth. It was a conspiracy and the killers companions failed to kill the Vice-President and Secretary of State.
  • 13th Amendment

    No Slavery!President Abraham Lincoln abolished slavery! It says that "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction." The Amendment passed the Senate in April of 1864, though it didn't pass the House until late January of 1865. It was ratified by enough states in Dec.
  • World War 1

    America was entered into the firt world war by President Woodrow Wilson. Wilson cited Germany’s violation of its pledge to suspend unrestricted submarine warfare in the North Atlantic and the Mediterranean. The US was a major help in the war effort against the Germans. If the war had not been won then America would not be the country it is today.
  • 19th Amendment

    The 19th Amendment prohibits any United States citizen to be denied the right to vote based on sex.The amendment was the culmination of the women's suffrage movement in the United States. It fought at both state and national levels to achieve the vote. It was drafted in 1878, though it was not submited until 1919.
  • Great Depression

    It started with the stock market crash of 1929. It was followed by the Dust Bowl which drove food prices crazy. President Hoover was not much help and infact made it worse by passing the Smoot Hawley Tarif. In his first Hundred days in office he did lots.
  • World War II

    WWIIAt first the US was attempting to stay out of WWII. The US was thrown into the war by the Japanese at the bombing of Pearl Harbour. It killed many people and enraged the country into being okay with the war. The military effort was strongly supported by civilians on the home front, who provided the soldiers, the munitions, the money and the morale to fight the war to victory.
  • Assassination of JFK

    He was president from January 1963 until November 1963. He was killed while traveling in a motorcade with his wife Jackie. He was shot by Lee Harvey Oswald. It in the end was concured to be a conspiracy.
  • African American Civil Rights Movement

    social rights movementThey were social movements from 1955-1968 fighting against social discrimination. Some of the major speakers of that era are Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcom X. They fought because they beleived that they deserved social justice and that everyone deserves to be free. They got most of wanted when they did a march on washington with MLK.
  • Moon Landing

    Moon LandingIt was the first manned mission to land on the moon. It was the day when Neil Armstrong was the first man on the moon.The flag that they put in the moon is still standing. Only Americans have ever walked on the moon 12 total.
