Unit 3 Timeline

  • The French And Indian War Begins

    The French and Indian war began over the topic of whether the Upper Ohio River valley was part of the British Empire or the French Empire. If it was part of the British Empire it made it open for trade and settlement. The French created alliances with the Native Americans.
  • The Sugar Act was passed

    The Sugar Act, taxed sugar. It prevented any smuggling of sugar and molasses from the Dutch West Indies. The money recieved from these taxes was used to pay off debts from the French and Indian War.
  • The Stamp Act was passed

    This taxed all paper used for commercial and private use in the colonies. It was also the first act to actually cause unrest in the colonies. This is where tensions rose between the colonists and the British government.
  • The Battle of Bunker Hill

    The first major battle between the colonists and the British. Most of the fighting occured in the neighboring Breed's Hill, where the colonists had set up a fortified base the night before. The battle ended up being a British victory since the colonists were forced to retreat off the peninsula after running out of ammunition.
  • George Washington becomes first president of the United States

    George Washington is elected as the first president of the United States. After serving as a army general he is elected and serves two terms. Which unofficially becomes the norm for every president until Franklin D Roosevelt, who served three terms during WWII.
