    1.Containment-when the U.S. was trying to stop communism from spreading.
    2.Arms Race/Space Race-U.S. and USSR were competition by nuclear weapons and to see who would be the first to reach the moon.
    3.USSR-one of the biggest, most influential republics
    4.Communism-political and economic ideology where the property is public and people work and are given things according to their needs.
    5.Domino Theory-When a political event in one country might have similar effects in neighboring countries.
  • Truman Doctrine

    U.S. policy that gave military and economic aid to countries threatened by communism
  • Berlin Airlift-when the U.S. helped bring food, water and other supplies to the citizens.

  • Marshall Plan

    program to help European countries rebuild after World War II
  • NATO was established to promote democratic values

  • Korean War was when North and South Korea split because they had different ideas to lead their country.

  • USSR launches Sputnik which caused the U.S to launch NASA

  • The US found out the the Soviet Union was supporting Cuba which scared many Americans so the US and the Soviet Union made an agreement and got rid of the missiles.

  • Gulf of Tonkin Resolution

    let the president make choices he thought would be helpful to us for the war without supervision
  • Medicare and medicaid was established which helped many Americans with their health

  • Tet Offensive-A series attacks from North Vietnam to South Vietnam. An attempt to form a rebellion to the south and o scale back the US involvement.

  • Tinker v. Des Moines

    defined the First Amendment rights for students in the United States Public Schools

  • Pentagon Papers- they revealed that the a lot about US involvement in the Vietnam war, none of which had been reported by the media in America.

    moved the voting age from 21 years old to 18 years old
  • War Powers Act

    limited the presidents right to send troops without the congresses approval
  • The Fall of Saigon marked the end of the Vietnam War
