    Steamships provided a way for people to transport their goods around the world to sell them and for the wealthy people it meant they could travel further away from home when on holidays.
  • First Car

    The invention of the car meant that people could travel further quite quickly and easily and therefore allowed people to travel or go on holidays more often and to further away places.
  • First Commercial Flight

    The beginning of commercial flights was a huge step in the history of tourism. This meant that people could travel even further for a holiday. The first passenger paid over $5000 just for a 23 minute flight.
  • Attack On The Twin Towers

    After the attack on the twin towers, few wanted to travel via a plane incase this happened again on one of their flights.
  • Global Financial Crisis
