  • Jackie Robison joins the Dodgers

    Jackie Robison was the first black man to play major leauge baseball. He broke the race barrior for sports. Later that year Robison was named rockie of the year. Baseball games now were filed with black and white fans. Jackie showed his color had nothing to do with his preformance on the filed. In 1955 he took the Brooklyn Dodgers to the world serise. As for what he did for the civil rights movement was changing social look on African American athleates.
  • Brown vs. Topeka borad of Education

    Brown vs. Topeka borad of Education
    It established separate public schools for black and white students unconstitutional. Used socoligy to show that black and white students were not equal.
  • Little Rock Crisis

    Nine black students had to be escorted by the national gaurd. In little rock arkansaw they tried to intergrate black students into a whites only school. The national gaurd had to keep the kids from being beat by the angry crowd of parents.
  • Greensboro Sit-Ins

    Greensboro Sit-Ins
    Four men sat at a whites only bar and asked for coffee. When the server refussed to serve them they stayed all night till closing. By the next day 30 more people joined them. By the end of Feb more then 300 students were doing the sit-ins.
  • 24th Amendment

    Was passed in order to stop southern states from taxing black voters. With this more blacks would vote. This amendment gave blacks more power in the government.
  • Selma March

    MLK led thousamds of blacks to the capital,montgomery AL. It took 5 days to get to the capital. SCLC and SNCC were campaning for voting rights.
  • Black Panthers Founded

    US african american militant party founded in oakland by Huey P newton and Bobby Seal. Was made because the only way was to be armed aginst the local police.In 1967 Newton killed a police officer. This was a turn for black civl rights because now they were being viloint.
  • MLK Assasinated

    MLK was out on his balcony when shoot. This was a big deal because he was the face behind the black cicl rights movement. LBJ called for a national day of mourning on Apirl 7.
