    In ancient times in the region of Japan there were many ethnicities, Religions, and languages . The most dominant group in ancient Japan would be the YAMATO Japanese. They followed the religion SHAMANISM ( connection to life) and were established in Japan. They clashed with many ethnic groups such as the SAGO. Shamanism was the roots of shinto and it was priests doing rituals to speak to KAMI ( spirits/gods) or go to the SPIRIT WORLD. The popular language was the old Japanese.

    The Korean kingdom KUDARA converted a Japanese prince, too Buddhism around 500 CE and impacted the religion and the language. Prince Suiko accepted buddhism and established Buddhism as a state religion and built TEMPLES and SHRINES for the BUDDHA. Chinese Buddhist MONKS traveled to Japan and brought CALLIGRAPHY ( type of writing ) to Japan and made it into a fine art.

    Francis Xavier was a Spanish JESUIT who went to japan around the 16th century to preach for Christianity and this impacted the religion. It was first introduced in the 16th century by FRANCIS XAVIER ( Spanish Jesuit).Xavier was the first priest to arrive at Japan and he introduced Christianity. Because of this a new religion formed called Japanese christians. Then in the 17th century they banned it because they were suspicious of foreign ideas. Therefore many Japanese christians were martyred.

    There are many ethnic groups and languages and religions such as the religion Shinto and the ethnic group the Yamato. The most Dominant ethnic group would be the YAMATO JAPANESE. Many people in Japan identify as Yamato. Around 98% of Japan is Yamato. The religions they practice would be SHINTO and Buddhism. There are large amounts of Buddhists in Japan, about 34% of the population identifies as Buddhist.There is also 1% percent of Christians today. The language spoken there is Japanese.
