    Confederates attack Fort Sumter in Charelston, South Carolina. This attack starts the Civil War.

    Civil War: Gettysburg
    The war turns towards the south. Condererate troops are defeated at the Battle of Gettysburg.
  • Civil War: Lee Surrenders

    Civil War: Lee Surrenders
    General Robert Lee surrenders his confederate troops at the village of Appomattox Court House in Virginia. General Ulysses Grant allowed Confederate soldiers to keep their war nessecities like, their sidearms and thier horses.

    As the Civil War was coming to an end President Abraham Lincoln was shot whilst watching a play. The former president's murderer whas John Wilkes Booth.

    President Andrew Johnson was impeached because of a violation of the Tenure of Office Act. This was the first impeachment of an American president.

    President Roosevelt built a canal through the Isthmus of Panama for easier access between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Panama later gave the US control of the canal zone in exchange for protection.

    The Zimmerman telegram was one of the main causes of America entering WWI. The note cotained stated that if America was to enter WWI that Germany would gain Mexico as an ally. The publication of the telegram outraged Americans.

    The treat of Versailles was signed by German and the allied powers officially ending the war. As a resultt Germany was to agree to the war guilt clause aking the blame and accepting to pay reparations to the allies.

    The Holocaust lasted for 12 years (1933-19450. During these years Jews were forced from their homes into 'ghettos" and ultimately were transported into concentration campe where they were first shaved of their heads and were either worked to death or killed instantly.

    To stop banks from caving into themselves financially Roosevelt developed the bank holiday. From March 6-10 all bank transactions were suspended to give banks, that were labled by the government as unfit, time to either close of find another way to finance themselves.

    Franklin D. Roosevelt came up with the new deal shortly after being elected president. In his plan to end The Great Depression Roosevelt had three goals: relief, recovery, and reform.
