Kin Bye met her future husband-to-be when she was 16 and he, 20. She was living at her aunt's place and one day her aunt went to a friend's brother's birthday party and saw him. On the way home, she recommended her niece Kin Bye to him for marriage. Khim Chiew decided to see Kin Bye's face and check her out first before agreeing to marry her. He secretly spied on her without her knowing and thought that she was pretty pretty, hence he went home to get a matchmaker. -

^According to the Lunar Calendar they were married on the 28th of July (the 7th month, which isn't a good time to marry because it's during the ghost festival) but Kin Bye's older female cousin was about to give birth soon and according to Chinese superstition she had to marry before that, hence everything was rushed into the 7th month.
