  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act

  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act required an official stamp to be bought for all papers, from legal documents to playing cards. The colonists were outraged at such an injustice, and began to form little uprisings. Britain repealed the act in March of 1766.   • The Townsend Acts

    The Townsend Acts
    The Townshend Acts were a series of different acts imposed on the colonies before the Boston Massacre. They ranged from holding up local governments, to holding up competing tea sellers. Many little uprisings were popping up against these acts until the Boston Massacre. The British repealed the act on March 5, 1770.   • The Tea Act

    The Tea Act
    The tea act was enforced to prop up the British East India Company and to eliminate any competitors in the tea business. The colonists were so angry about it that they dressed up as Indians and dumped 3 ships worth of tea into the Boston Harbor.   • The Intolerable Acts

    The Intolerable Acts
    The Intolerable Acts was a series of acts made to punish Boston for the Boston Tea Party. They ranged from shutting down the port until damages were paid, to forcing colonists to house soldiers. The British had meant to make an example of Boston, but these acts only united the colonies into the first continental congress.
