    A political protest performed by the "Sons of Liberty" when Britain imposed "taxation without representation". Dumped 342 chests of tea into the harbor.
  • Revolution begins with Lexington and Concord

    First military engagements of the American Revolution.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Announced separation between America and Great Britian
  • Battle of Yorktown and Articles of Confederation Ratified

    Most important battle of the revolution. Surrender of Cornwallis's army. Articles of Confederation were United States first Constitution.
  • Constitution ratified

    Became the official framework for the government until ratified.
  • George Washington becomes President

    George Washington becomes the first president of the U.S. The French Revolution also began this year.
  • Thomas Jefferson elected president

    Thomas Jefferson elected 3rd president of the U.S.
