    WWii begins after Hitler invades Poland followed by Denmark, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, and France. On September 3rd britians Prime Minister Chamberlain declared war on Germany. America would not get involved in the war yet.

    Germany starts to bomb Britain. Many people living in london were forced into the subways as bomb shelters. Alot of London was destroyed. Britain asked for help from America, but we still didnt fight.
  • Pearl Harbor

    In a surprise attack, Japanese bombers fly over Pearl Harbor in Hawaii and destroy almost all of our pacific fleet. After this many americans wanted to go to war and jumped at the chance to enlist. During war americans bought libirty bonds to help support the war and women had to take the jobs men had before the war.

    John E. Cornish Enlists
    At the age of 19 John Cornish enlisted in Kalamazoo MI to join the army. He was in the 26th Infantry "Big Red One" division. Was a artillary spotter in the cannon company. He was stationed at Weymouth in England before D-Day. He also fought at the battle of the Buldge.
  • Operation Overload

    June 6th 1944 in the early morning they arrived on the beaches of Normandy. This was the first stage in the liberation of western Europe and a huge step towards defeating Germany. Omaha Beach was the bloodiest and came close to failing at securing the beach but in the end Operation Overlord was a sucess.

    Germany surrendered to the western allies on May 7th and the Soviets on May 8th 1945 on V-E Day. About a week after Adolf Hitler committed suicide by taking Cyanide than shooting himself in the head after.

    After the war my grandpa John went to Western University to get his masters to teach us history and socialogy from 1947 to June of 1952
  • Grandparents get married

    John Cornish met Doris Evelyn at Western University and after about a year they got married on March 16 1949.

    Around the 1950s grandpa John traveled with a big band playing the tenor saxophone. They played mostly jazz.
  • First child is born

    On november 21 1954 John and Doris had there first son Jeff Cornish.
  • Second Child Born

    On january 12 1958 they had there first daughter Janet Cornish
  • Third Child Born

    On December 22 1960 there second girl Cindy Cornish was born
  • Kennedy Assasination

    Kennedy Assasination
    JFK was assinated in Dallas Texas during a parade by Lee Harvey Oswald from the School Book Depository on Elm street.
  • Fourth Child Born

    On december 28 1963 my mother Mary Cornish was born and she was the third girl.
  • Fifth and final child born

    On October 1 1964 they had there second boy Eric Cornish. After he was born they stopped having kids.
  • Grandfathers Death

    On June 26 2001 my grandpa John Cornish died in St. Clair river distict hospital.
  • 9/11

    On September 11 2001 at 8:46 a.m., five hijackers crashed American Airlines Flight 11 into one of the twin towers than at 9:03 a.m., another five hijackers crashed United Airlines Flight 175 into the other twin tower. Both towers collapsed. Then at 9:37 a.m. another hijacked plane was crashed into the Pentagon. Also a fourth plane that was said to be heading to the white house or the capital, but passengers fought with the hijackers and they ended up crashing into a field in Pennsylvania.
  • Grandmothers Death

    My grandma died on December 12 2006 in a nursey home in St. Clair.
