  • Sam reads "The Fir Tree" by Hans Christian Anderson and Josie sang "Sweet and Low" at the Christmas Concert

  • Pa tells Sam that he is turning Prince, Goldie & Pete loose on the prairie for the winter

  • Pa & Sam ride out on the prairie to turn the horses loose

  • Prince came back to the farm so Pa took him back out to the prairie

  • Matt, Josie & Sam decorate the house for Christmas

  • Mama decides Sam has pouted long enough and has him make up a plan for planting crops and yields for the next year

  • Sam went into Curlew with Pa and bought Christmas presents for his family

  • Sam, Matt, Josie & Mama taught Gregor to speak, read & write some English

  • A big five day snow storm sets in

  • Sam helped Pa do chores out in the barn

  • Mama bakes bread

  • Sam goes for a run on the prairie and sees the herd of horses. He sees that Prince is the leaders.

  • Gregor told Sam and his family about his family and where they had come from

  • Gregor gives Mrs. Ferrier an Easter egg as a thank you present.

  • Sam notices that the wind smells different and is coming from the south

  • Pa and Sam go out on the prairie to try and catch their horses. Prince leads the herd away.

  • Pa, Sam & Adam Martingale rode out onto the prairie to try and catch the horses again. Prince led the herd away again.

  • Pa rides to town to talk to everyone about going out to round up the horses and Mama and the kids wash all the quilts and laundry

  • King, Goldie & Pete come home by themselves
